Our Story

Carey Theological College, a Baptist seminary situated in Vancouver, BC, launched its first graduate-level Chinese ministry course in March, 2004. Through the years, the North American Chinese Church Ministry (NACCM) Program has expanded to provide quality theological education to both lay leaders and pastors for the Chinese Canadian Christian communities in the lower mainland and beyond. Carey has graduated 35 Chinese students from our Master’s level program and 47 from our non-degree Chinese programs.

The NACCM program at Carey first offered Chinese language ministerial training (Cantonese and Mandarin) which developed into the present M.Div. with the NACCM concentration for English-speaking Chinese Canadian Christian leaders. The Carey Institute is currently offering a spiritual formation program for Chinese Christian women and a Diploma in Ministry for urban church pastors in China. A discipleship program recently began for Mandarin speaking Christian scholars. Carey continues to discern new directions and initiatives to better equip the leadership of Chinese Canadian churches, especially among the second generation pastors and lay leaders.

Our Goal

ReGeneration (NACCM) at Carey is designed to equip leaders to proclaim the Good News of Christ’s redemption and to bring renewal, reconciliation and restoration to Chinese Canadian Christian communities. We strive to provide culturally-sensitive and theologically-oriented ministry training for leaders who share the Chinese Christian story.

ReGeneration Logo

What does our logo mean?

The two Chinese words in our logo (更生) means “rebirth.” Those two words can also be combined into a single character (甦) meaning, “to be alive again.”

Our Mission

Training the Next-Generation Pastor
Carey Theological College addresses the congregational and pastoral issues of North American Chinese Christian communities through specially-designed graduate-level education. Participants are equipped to analyze cultures and gain leadership skills to meet the particular challenges in their specific ministry contexts.

Discipling the Whole People of God
Carey Institute equips individuals, communities, and churches for their faith formation and growth in Christian ministry — wherever they live, work, and play. Pastors and lay persons are enriched through seminars, summer programs and conferences offered in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Discerning the Mission from God
Equipping leaders to move across cultures, both locally and globally, is an integral part of Carey’s mission.  Carey offers theological education for pastors in China and a discipleship program for Chinese Christian scholars on the UBC campus.
